How to play Dungeon Lootr
The HUD, the lobby machines, and the decisions that keep a bag of Infernal Ore alive.
Dungeon Lootr is a zone-clear ARPG, not an idle clicker. Each run drops you into a generated dungeon, asks you to empty the enemy counter, and then offers a chest, a gate, or a boss. The lobby between runs is where the account actually grows. If you only read Getting Started, you can finish Bandit’s Den. This page is how you stop dying with the bag.
Servers hold 15 players. The plaza is a hangout with emotes, BUY SHOP, SELL SHOP, the Guide NPC, the Forge, and the Classes hall. You can group a dungeon from that courtyard. You can also run solo. Either way the extract rule does not change: dead players drop the loot they have not banked.
Combat HUD
During a run you should always be able to name five numbers:
- Enemies left — the zone is not clear until this is zero.
- Lives — the run’s extra mistakes. Spend them on bosses, not on trash packs you could have walked around.
- Timer — some rooms punish stalling. Fast clears also raise how many zones you see before extract.
- Health — potions sit on the hotbar (slot 5 in the default layout). Cauldrons inside the dungeon refill those potions. Drink, then walk to the cauldron, not the other way around.
- Skill cooldowns — four class skills plus a basic attack. Ronin’s bar is Ichimonji, Setting Horizon, Swallow Cut, Falling Blossom. Other kits replace that entire row. See the class directory. Number keys and the mobile cluster are on controls.
Parry exists. Bosses hit in patterns, not as health sponges. Bandit Chief, The Forest Warden is the tutorial exam. If you only mash, you will still win on Normal. On Hard and Nightmare the same boss (and Varek, the Feared later) will clip you for ignoring the wind-up. Parry the heavy, dodge the sweep, then dump the skill that covers the most area.
Combo counters look loud. They are not a ranking. Skill Damage Multiplier is shared across classes in the Class Menu, which is why the tier list ranks range, cooldown, and hit reliability instead of the number on the tooltip.
Blessings mid-run
Somewhere in a dungeon you pick a Blessing. Documented examples:
- Nimble — movement. Take it on kits that already have to chase (melee without a dash).
- Focused Casting — casters and gunners.
- Bulwark — defense when you are learning a new boss.
GM Blessings from codes are a cousin of this pick. They are not a permanent Aspect. Spend them on a dungeon you are studying, not on a map you can already farm asleep.
Keys, gates, and why Gold Key matters
Keys come in four tiers. They open gated chests, not the boss door. A Gold Key opens a gated gold chest that can hold Infernal Ore, which is the kind of material you will want when the Forge starts asking for more than Iron Scrap. If you extract with keys still in the bag and skipped every locked gate, you played the dungeon on easy mode for no reason. Peek the rooms. If the pack behind the gate is larger than your lives, leave.
Stats
Four pools:
- Strength — melee kits, including most God-tier swordsmen.
- Dexterity — attack speed and kits that live on hit count (Boxer, Jetstream).
- Intelligence — casters, Witch Gunner, anything that reads as spell damage.
- Vitality — the HP bar that lets you learn Frostspire Bastion.
Player level caps at 100. Each class also has its own EXP. Premium Plus adds +5% Player EXP and +10% Class EXP. The stat-builds page maps these four onto the current builds instead of telling every class to stack Strength.
Forge versus Merchant
The Forge NPC upgrades an equipped piece for materials plus Coins and raises Gear Score. That is the real power curve. The Merchant sells plates for Coins (Hollow Knight’s Plate is a 4K example). Buy Merchant gear only when a slot is empty or the sold piece beats your drop on the stats you actually stacked. Selling junk at SELL SHOP funds the Forge. Do not sell Infernal Ore.
Aspect Gems are a third machine. They roll a passive — Umbral, Sanguine, Tempest, Phantom, Ruin, Alacrity, Blaze, Glaciel — onto the equipped class. Roll them after the unlock route says that class is a keeper.
Extract timing
Push until the next zone would cost a life you do not have. Boss chests are worth more than a third side room. If you came for fragments, you are in the wrong mode — switch to Boss Rush. If you came to unlock the next story map, follow the dungeon order. If you came to test a class item, read class items so you do not enter Hard with the wrong kit still equipped from the plaza.
The Guide NPC in town still answers classes, loot, and Gear Score if this page is too much at once. Use it. Then come back and parry.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for codes, classes, Boss Rush, and forging.
How do I heal during a Dungeon Lootr run?
Drink hotbar potions, then refill them at dungeon cauldrons before the next zone. Do not enter a boss at half potions.
What do keys do?
They open gated chests. Gold Keys can unlock gold chests with Infernal Ore. They are not boss keys.
Should I buy from the Merchant or use the Forge?
Forge first. Merchant fills empty slots. Gear Score mostly moves when you upgrade a piece you already like.
Is Dungeon Lootr solo or co-op?
Online shared lobby, 15-player servers, grouping from the plaza. You can run dungeons with friends or solo.
